INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
MY
APPROACH
I believe that a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is key for change, and can be utilized to improve client relationships and functioning. I am caring, compassionate and curious. I believe in direct and open communication and take an active role in therapy. (If you are looking for a therapist who will just listen, I am probably not the therapist for you)
I am known to go straight to the heart, embrace difficult emotions when they arise, and use humor in therapy. I want clients to ultimately be the source of their change and growth, and also hold people to their goals, beliefs, and behaviors. Clients tell me that they appreciate my directness and honesty, my creative approach, the structured process in our sessions, and how I lovingly challenge them.
THERAPEUTIC
MODALITIES
My primary approach to therapy is Narrative Exposure Therapy. Even if clients are not seeking support for specific traumatic events, I utilize this therapeutic modality to explore relational patterns related to childhood and adult relationships. Through the narrative therapy lens I help clients gain insights related to past harm. Clients can expect that we will be exploring adverse experiences in session.
I want clients to have a sense of the impact of their childhood on themself and their functioning. These early relationships and experiences are necessary for self reflection and growth. By explicitly working with your memories you can expect some difficult work ahead, but also transformative growth. I believe that is what therapy is about.
I also include Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and somatic approaches to support mind and body integration, with the goal of promoting greater overall healing and insight. Put simply, I want you to know yourself. Really well.

Therapy isn't the only framework for change, and I regularly encourage clients to seek support from other mental health providers, alternative wellness providers (massage, naturopathic, acupuncture, etc), and psychiatric professionals. I believe this integration of care is essential for change. This may also include recommendations for support groups, social activities, or couples/relationship therapy.
HOLISTIC
MODEL
OF
CARE
As a neurodivergent therapist I want to honor the amazing and/or challenging complexities of neurodivergent clients, and create a space that is free of bias and judgement. I will not pretend to be an expert in your neurodivergent experience, make assumptions, or engage in toxic positivity. I strive to create an environment that supports accommodations, embraces people's needs in and out of therapy sessions, fosters curiosity, and allows folks to explore their identity at their comfort level.
If you are neurodivergent (or suspect you are) my goal is that you will feel safe and validated in being yourself in session, and that we find approaches to therapy that feel supportive and affirming. Also, I have no issues with self diagnosing, and "neuro-curious" folks are always welcome.
