Processing trauma is hard.
That's why we avoid it -
even in therapy.

But together we can face it.
Because your story matters.
Your Life Is Not A Fixed Narrative -
Trauma can feel like stumbling around in a dark cave, getting tripped up by our memories, uncertain of what painful obstacles await. It alters a person's sense of safety, self, and relationship.

Narrative Exposure Therapy helps us step into our dark cave and TURN ON THE LIGHTS. With the lights on you can see all of the things that have been harming you, and how to navigate your way through your memories without feeling as tormented and triggered.
Through narrative therapy we work to reorganize pieces of fragmented memories to develop a coherent story of exactly what occurred and the impact of the harm. This knowledge helps us get free from the confusion and unpredictability of trauma and feel a greater sense of agency. The memories become less activating, helping us feel liberated and more confident in ourself and our story.

The memories will always be there, but your relationship to them will become clear, consistent, and compassionate.
Trauma and interpersonal harm have a way of haunting us by creating fear, shame, anxiety, and sadness. Not to mention a multitude of distressing physical symptoms.
You Should Not Be Alone As You Process Trauma

NO SURPRISE, the idea of working through trauma in therapy is intimidating! It can be scary to even imagine sharing intimate details of your life with another person. You deserve to have a therapist that won't judge you and can stay present with you when you share your most difficult memories.
I will treat your memories with care, and have confidence you will feel liberated and empowered through our work together.
I will meet you with compassion as you gain deeper insights into your traumatic memories, helping you increase self confidence and be in healthier relationship with yourself.

My goal is for clients to increase their understanding of their past and present and the impact trauma has had on their functioning. I want clients to feel an increased sense of clarity and calm when reminded of their traumatic memories.
What is Mentalization Based Narrative Exposure Therapy?
I am trained in a type of Narrative Therapy called Mentalization Based Narrative Exposure Therapy for Complex Trauma (MBNET). This model takes steps to further explore the relational dynamics of interpersonal trauma, by interrogating the many ways that people can intentionally create harm.

MBNET acknowledges that humans engage in "mind mapping", where we create an internal understanding of another person's thoughts and feelings. Mind mapping can be used to promote caring empathetic relationships, or to intentionally mistreat and take advantage of others. When we understand the sophisticated ways that mind mapping happens in relational trauma, we gain valuable perspectives related to the harm, and our insights of the trauma become clearer.
We will get into the granular details to find your truths. This isn’t surface-level talk therapy - it’s skilled, narrative work that will help you reclaim your life.
